I have to say that I think this project is a huge waste of time and money. The brain is more than it's physical component; indeed it's the awareness of the mind and the consciousness that informs it that makes the brain function in the amazing way that it does. Without that it would be as useless as a car without a driver.
It would serve these scientists more to do research, testing and modeling of the brain using truly enlightened minds of Yogis or Tibetan Lamas, and the new neurological equipment for mapping the brain that has been developed recently.
So, unfortunately regarding research such as what is promoted in this article, I just don't think it's worth the effort and funding.

I do like what lavender lady said about the brain not being just a physical component. I wanted to include this in my blog (just kidding, but I did) but didn't know how to say it as well as she did. Our souls are the major piece so there is only so much to be studied of a fraction of that made by a computer:)
ReplyDeleteI agree that the human mind is more than what the chinese see as a empty organ. They say all thought and feelings are regulated to the shen or heart this would make the brain a dead organ with less use than the appendix! this cant be right right? somewhere the soul sits in the body if not the mind then where? hmmmm
ReplyDeleteZephyr -in TCM don't we say that the brain is the Sea of Marrow? In that case it actually has a huge responsibility, just as the West assigns it a huge responsibility. Here is a nice little summary of the TCM Brain:
ReplyDeleteBrain (Sea of Marrow)
Controlled by the Kidney
-Controls intelligence, memory, and the five senses
Related to Heart
-Heart Blood nourishes the Shen and mental activity
Related to Liver
-Controls circulation of Qi
-Helps smooth flow of emotions
It's actually not so empty after all! It's nice when East & West can at least agree on the importance of the Brain on a smallish scale. Score!
